If you learn how to distill water, you don’t have to go to the supermarket anymore and save money!
Don’t worry because distilling water is easy with a guide to help you out. Read this article on how to make distilled water at home.
1. How to Distill Water Using a Stove Gas
Fill a large pot with lots of water. Put a small bowl inside and set the heat-resistant glass lid over the pot. Place the lid upside down so the water will drip on the center then fall into the bowl.
Turn on the stove to heat up the water. You don’t need to turn the settings to HIGH as long as the pot water is boiling. Put some ice cubes on top of the lid to make the process of condensation faster.
Wait until all the water got boiled off the main pot. After that, turn off the stove and be careful when taking the heated bowl out. Let the distilled water cool down before storing it in the containers.
The main difference between distilled vs bottled water is that distilled is the purest water on earth. You can drink it without consuming dangerous microbes and chemicals. For storage, you should use BPA-free plastic containers and keep them tightly sealed.
2. Distilling Water Using a Large Funnel
The funnel method is a better alternative similar to the previous one. It allows you to continuously collect water without stopping to take out the bowl. Another advantage is the water is safer to drink because it reduces the risk of contamination.
Put the large funnel over the large pot instead of the lid to catch the condensation. Connect a plastic aquarium or copper tubing at the bottom part of the funnel. Attach the other end of the tubing to a separate container.
Place the latter lower than the funnel. In this way, you can rely on gravity to pull the distilled water from the tubing into the container.
3. How to Distill Water From Rainwater
Did you know rainwater is pure, distilled water? If you often experience rainy weather, take advantage of that, and learn how to convert it into drinkable water!
Take out a large, clean container outside to collect the rain. Wait for 2 to 3 days to allow any debris or sediment to settle at the bottom. Store the collected water in clean bottles or jugs.
You shouldn’t drink the water as is if you live in a polluted city. It’s better to further purify it by filtering and boiling the collected water.
Also, don’t use rainwater that goes through the gutter or downspout. Removing the leaves and cleaning the gutter is not enough to prevent contamination. You should only collect water straight from the rain.
